Amanda
was a young mom in her twenties when I met her
a few years ago. She is a single mother of
three lively young daughters, ages 3, 5 and 7
years old. Amanda lived through years of
domestic violence that ended when she took her
three girls and fled from the abuser with just
the clothes on their backs. This courageous
young woman has not only provided a safe home
for her daughters here in Cherokee county, but
she has been working full-time and going to
college as well.
Amanda
was a participant in my Active Parenting of
5-12 year olds class, as well as my parent
support group for over a year. She was always
interactive in both classes and enjoyed
learning as much as she could about parenting
issues. Amanda had so much to offer, but
needed encouragement and support. She
understood the basics of effective parenting,
but needed some additional guidance.
Quite
honestly, Amanda is a success story because of
Amanda herself. She worked very hard to
overcome her obstacles and with that
determination, as well as support from others,
she and her daughters will have a happy,
fulfilled life.
**Footnote:
I recently received an invitation from Amanda
for her college graduation. She was voted to
be the valedictorian for her class. Her goal
is to become a pediatric oncology nurse. I
have no doubt that she will become just that.
